About Dan Sullivan
Dan Sullivan is a professional technical educator who owns Sullivan Training Systems and brighterIDEAS, LLC. He has taught over 2800 US and Canadian technicians since starting out on his own in 1996. He has over 20 years total experience in technical classrooms, and he has specialized in heavy trucks and equipment since 1996. He has authored a popular Electrical Textbook now in use in over 20 tech schools, and he invented, patented and now manufactures TESliteĀ® Voltmeter Leads - the only mechanic-designed circuit load tester adopted by VOLVO Heavy Truck and Caterpillar. He is a federally licensed aircraft mechanic, and who has also worked as a technician on cars, trucks, boats and heavy equipment, and he has over 24 years maintenance experience. His background includes teaching technical courses (including machine shop) at three universities and also at two proprietary technical schools. His areas of specialization include electrical and electronic troubleshooting, fundamentals of electricity and computer diagnostics.
Dan's specialization is in linking practical, hands-on projects with intelligent lecture to create an open and productive classroom environment for students of all calibers. He is an excellent communicator who understands electricity and people well enough to be able to bring them both together for an exciting and meaningful experience. Fundamental Electrical Troubleshooting is especially designed to teach every electrical principle a heavy equipment technician needs to be prepared for electronics and computer-based vehicle systems.
He currently provides electrical training for several manufacturers and has taught for Caterpillar, Cummins, Volvo, Komatsu, Freightliner and Kenworth, Kress Carriers, Le Tourneau, International, John Deere, and many others. He holds certificates in the following: Sundstrand Power Generation, GM Airbag, GM Air-conditioning (R-134), Volvo Computer Diagnostics, and Caterpillar Electric Power Generation 1, 2 & 3.
As a technician educator he has written and taught courses in Fundamental Electrical Troubleshooting, Electrical Systems Maintenance, Computer Diagnostics, Schematic and Blueprint Reading, Technical Manuals and Data, Wiring Practices, and other courses such as Structural Sheetmetal, Composites, Technician Physics & Math, and Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
